LADY MARIE EARNS PURSE » Takes the Measure of The Heathen and Contemplate. * AdTtnrf Handicap Stellar Attraction on Program Offered » y Hamilton Jockey Club — Track Fast. ♦ HAMILTON, Ont., June 27. — The Advance Handicap, over three-quarters, brought out the best grade of sprinters quartered at the local track. It was provided as the bright and particular feature for the fourth day of the meeting at the Hamilton Jockey Club couse. For this a field of seven answered to the bask and victory went to Lady Marie, from the E. II. Morehouse stable, when, under good riding by jockey O. Brown, the five-year-old daugbt r of Trompe la Morte — LOrpeline. scored after a drive with The Heathen, from the C. EL Pierce barn, by a length. Contemplate, the favorite, with a string of five successive victories to his credit, was only able to earn third money for H. C. Hatch and it was a narrow margin that separated him from the fast finishing Mineralogist, which carried the silks of F. W. .lallaghan. Some time was lost at the barrier, but the release of the webbing found the field away in good style and The Heathen took up his usual burden of setting the pace, closely followed by Lady Marie and Contemplate, with the others close up. The Heathen, on being put to a drive, tired as he entered the stretch and it took little effort from Lady Marie to assume command, which she held to the end. Contemplate was under punishment in the final drive, but his speed was not sufficient and he luckily lasted to stave off Mineralogist. Saxon, making his first appearance since last winter, was unable to make any impression on his opponents and was in next to the last place. Another good crowd witnessed the various races and favorites showed to much better advantage. No change occurred in the track conditions. ECOMA GRADUATES. After four starts in attempting to break out of the maiden class. Ecoma, racing for C. L. Whiting, finally broke into the winners* column when she proved best of nine other juveniles that paraded for the initial race of the afternoon, a test over five-eighths that found The Top and Kentucky Lad receiving the most support. Ecoma, away in the firt flight from a good start, raced in close pursuit of the pace set by Kentucky Lad. displaced the latter when straightened out tor the stretch drive and under a hard drive lasted to withstand The Tops belated ru.h. Macil. a first time starter, earned the minor award, and Kentucky Lad raced into fourth place. Channing L. scored at the first asking for his new owner, J. E. Smallman, when he accounted for the major part of the purse in the second race, which attracted a field of six. He came from behind a fast pace to wear down Circulet and French Lass and won by a neck. French Lass was a well backed favorite and flattered by overtaking Circulet after the first half mile, but despite Town-rows vigorous urging, she was unable to withstand the Smallman colorbearers final rush. The winner galloped the route in 1 :12%. A dozen homc-breds of ordinary caliber started in the Valcartier Purse, a claiming race that was third on the card, and the first successful choice of the afternoon earned brackets, when Goeland, racing for Donal Raymond, led to the end of the route to score in handy fashion by two lengths from J. C. Fletchers Fine Lady. Meteor Sparks earned third place for the Hastings Stable. Goeland was never far from the pace set by Seapen, an 1 moving up to the latter when put to a drive entering the stretch, gained command at the final eighth post, and drew away steadily thereafter until she was well clear. Fine Lady was a like distance in the van of Meteor Sparks, with the others more or less strung out. FOURTH STRAIGHT WIN. Kitling. the consistent daughter of Parisian Diamond — Kate Kittleberry, which races in the silks of the Seagram Stable, added to her perfect score this season by winning her fourth consecutive victory, when she matched strides with four others in the fourth race. In a severe drive, she was able to score by a head over G. B. Elliots Willingdon, to keep her record intact. Third part of the purse went to Dushka. while, to complete the field in the order named, came Sergeant Major and Javan. Kitling was. the favorite and. racing back of the leaders for three-quarters, went to the outside to make sure of racing room and. under pressure in the final stag. s. managed to catch Willing Ion, which had .lispose l of Dushka, and got up in the last fifty yards. Waffles earned a purse for J. Mayberry, when she accounted for the sixth race, decided over the turf course, reaching the end of the journey a length and a half to the good of Blue B--ans. from the J. E. Small-man stable, while third fell to the consistent Alita Allen, which races for H. Haymaker. Waffles raced in the wake of Blue B. -ans for seven-eighths, shook the latter off to take command at the last eighth post, and thereafter increased her lead steadily, to have something in reserve at the end.
