CLIPSETTA STAKES PROMISING Golden Jubilee Renewal of Latonia Fixture Should Result in a Thrilling Contest. LATONIA. Ky., June 16 From all indications the Golden Jubilee running of the Clipsetta Stakes, the ,000 added race for two-year-old fillies, that features the opening days program at Latonia, June 25, will attract the best of the fairer sex in Western racing. With assurance that the race would be a renewal of the feud between Bernard B. Jones Hilena and Sewell Combs Nituma. the race took on an additional lustre when it became known that Clyde Van Dusen was shipping Charles T. Fishers Esseff here for her engagement. Hilena and Nituma hold a victory over each other, with Hilenas triumph being the richer when sKe raced to victory in the Debutante Stakes at Washington Park. Although eligible to the Debutante, Esseff was a little slow in coming to hand and Van Dusen placed Dixianas reliance in Spartan Lady. She finished third in the race. Since then Esseff has shown under silks and she left the maiden ranks with ease at the first asking. Following her initial victory, she raced five furlongs in the Rose Hill Purse in :59, or a fifth of a second off the track record, to lead Levaal by three lengths. She was conceding weight to Levaal and a majority of the others, and after allowing Levaal to show the way for the first quarter, came from behind to win like a good filly. Van Dusen plans to ship the Dixiana horses, the nom de course under which the Detroit body manufacturer races, to Latonia next Monday. In addition to Esseff, Dixiana is represented by Spartan Lady and High Complexion in the list of nominations for the Clipsetta. In High, which carried Mr. Fishers colors to victory in the Bash-ford Manor Stakes at Churchill Downs, and third in the Curran Memorial, is eligible for the Trophy. He will have a companion in Pre War, a son of Man o War and Sherbet, which finished unplaced in his first race. However, the colt raced greenly in that effort and he will have an opportunity of improving before the Trophy, which will be decided July 16. Betty Derr, which Van Dusen purchased from Herbert P. Gardner, and the winner of last years renewal of the Latonia Oaks, was named for the Quick Step Handicap, while Parfait, a half sister to Pre War, will be Dixianas representative in the Latonia Oaks.
