REVIVE SHERIDAN STAKES Arlington Park Jockey Club Adds Former Popular Fixture to Its List of Feature Races. One of Chicagos famous old races, the Sheridan Stakes, will be revived at Arlington Park on Tuesday, July 12. The new Sheridan Stakes will be one of thirty features of the Arlington meeting opening Monday, June 27, and like its predecessor will be confined to three-year-olds, but at a distance of one and one-eighth miles, whereas the race that was a high spot of Chicago racing from 1884 until 1903 was at one mile and a quarter. Kosciusko was the first winner of the Sheridan, and Santon was the last and in between these two horses the roster contains the names of such famous racers of another day as Ed Corrigan, Emperor of Norfolk, Proctor Knott, Rey El Santa Anita, Ban-nockburn and Aladdin. Among the well-known thoroughbreds which suffered defeat in runnings of the Sheridan were Spokane, Clifford and Volante. In his victory, Emperor of Norfolk was ridden by the famous negro jockey, Isaac Murphy, while W. Overton, Tommy Burns, J. Bullman and George Coburn were noted jockeys with the Sheridan to their credit. That the Sheridan to be run at Arlington Park will maintain the traditions of the old race is indicated by the class of the forty-one candidates, among them being Evening, On Post, Mad Frump, Kakapo, Pairbypair, Trinchera, Pompeius, Polonaise, Marmion, Cathop, Durango, Big Beau, Indian Runner, Adobe Post, Springsteel, Open Hearth, Saz-erac, Princess Camelia, Gallant Sir, Our Fancy, I Say, Barcelona Pete and Minton.
