WINNER OF THE FRENCH DERBY Strip the Willow Surprises Spectators at Chantilly by His Victory A. J. Duggan Owner. PARIS, France, June 16. The Derby Day gathering at Chantilly Sunday saw A. J. Duggans Strip the Willow, an outsider in the betting, race home winner over Edward Esmonds Shied and James Hennesseys Grey Perle in the one mile and a ,half Prix du Jockey Club French Derby, value threo hundred thousand francs approximately 2,000. Seventeen horses started and Strip the Willow scored by a length and a half. Bosphore, the choice, carrying the silks of Baron Edouard de Rothschild, finished out of the money. Strip the Willow showed nothing in hia previous races this season, while last year in five starts his best effort was third in the Prix de Newmarket Handicap at Long-champs. Bred at the Haras de Jardy by the successors of the late Eumond Blanc, Strip the Willow, a roan-grey son of the 1924 Ascot Gold Cup winner, Massinc, from Mas Queen, was sold as a yearling at the 1930 IDeauville sales for approximately ,000 to his present owner.
