much interest in west j ! VIRGINIA MEETING L 1 BALTIMORE, Md., Aug. 8. So much interest is manifested in the initial race meeting with pari-mutuel wagering at Charles Town, W. Va.., that the association decided to stage programs Thursday, Friday and Saturday of this week instead of the first two days as originally planned. Mort Mahoney, pari-mutuel manager, leaves for the West Virginia town tomorrow, accompanied by Edward J. Brennan and Thomas Kirby Lynch, well-known officials on Maryland tracks. Brennan and Lynch will serve as stewards at Charles Town. Discussing the Charles Town meeting today, general manager Boyle said: "We have had so many requests from horsemen to run three days this week that we decided to open Thursday and also stage programs Friday and Saturday. There will be five flat races, a steeplechase and two trotting races daily. Pari-mutuel wagering will be offered on all twenty-four races, and I am confident the meeting will be well supported. "Scores of horses that have been getting ready for the Cumberland meeting, which opens Marylands fall season on August 22, are moving into Charles Town. Jim Milton, starter on all Maryland mile tracks, will send the fields away at the West Virginia course." Judge Reese Lizzard of Parkersburg, W. Va.,. will serve with Brennan and Lynch in the stewards stand. Brennan has just returned from Rockingham Park, while Lynch came from a vacation in Canada. The racing strip at Charles Town has been worked into first class condition by Dick Pending, superintendent of the Bowie and Marlboro tracks in this state. Racing this week at Charles Town will serve as a "feeler" for the meeting to be held here in December under the direction of Boyle, Lynch and Mahoney.
