TURNER MARLBORO SECRETARY Baltimore Man Takes Up Duties at Popular Maryland Track Meeting- Opens August 29. BALTIMORE, Md., Aug. 8. John Pur-cell Turner of this city, who enjoys an international reputation as a turf official, serving with success on American and Canadian courses, was today named racing secretary of the Southern Maryland Agricultural Associations fall meeting, which opens August 29 at Marlboro. Turner, who spent the summer working as racing secretary, steward, clerk of the scales and placing judge on Canadian tracks, is due in Marlboro shortly to get things ship shape for the second lap of Marylands fall racing season. While in Canada he has found time to line up many prominent horsemen, who have been racing across the border. He also has the assurance of several of the best riders that they will come to Maryland in time for the meeting in Prince George3 County, therefore the approaching meeting promises to furnish turfites with the keenest sport since the late James F. OHara and Gadsden D. Bryan opened it many years ago. Horsemen who intend to race at Marlboro, should file applications for stalls at once with track superintendent Dick Pending, 317 Baltimore Life Building, Charles and Saratoga Streets, or care of the Marlboro Race Track. General manager Joseph B. Boyle and treasurer Thomas Kirby Lynch are working on some plans for the forthcoming Marlboro meeting, which when released, will meet with the approval of horsemen.
