I., July 14.— President Walter OHara announced here that the total distribution in stakes and purses at the inaugural meeting of the Narragansett Racing Association, starting August 1 and running through Labor Day, September 3, will amount to 35,600. Of this sum 0,-000 will be added to the stake events, handicaps and claiming races. OHara also announced that the final event of the meeting will be the Rhode Island Handicap, three-year-olds and over, one mile and three-sixteenths, with ,500 added, Labor Day. The stake book for the summer meeting has been printed and will be distributed among owners throughout the country immediately. Ben Holmes, who will serve as entry clerk and timer, arrived at Narragansett Park Saturday and took charge of the registration of horses and reservations for stalls. Holmes, who resigned as entry clerk at Detroit to come to Narragansett, stated he had received assurances from many owners at the Michigan track that they will ship here. Holmes has had a long and varied career in the sport. More than thirty years ago he was an exercise boy at New York tracks. He has been employed at many of the leading tracks in the United States and Canada, including Arlington Downs in Texas and the Fair Grounds in New Orleans. A special notice published in the stake book advises owners "the rules and regulations of racing adopted by the Rhode Island Racing Commission govern all races run over the course of the Narragansett Racing Association."
