INDIAN RUNNERS FINAL WORK Arlington Handicap Eligible Gallops One and an Eighth Over Sloppy Track in 1:46%. ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, 111., July 19.— D. A. Woods Indian Runner, which promises | to be the ruling favorite in the 5,000 ! Arlington Handicap at Arlington Park Sat- 1 urday, was given his final preparation this morning for the mile and a quarter special. Trainer George Ogle sent the veteran a mile and an eighth in the sloppy going in two minutes. With jockey Allen Tipton in the saddle Indian Runner was rated along at a steady pace, going the first quarter in 28 seconds, half in :55%, three-quarters in 1:21% and mile in 1:46%. Hadagal, Warren Wrights good three-year-old, which proved his worth by a splendid effort in the Classic, in which he was third, well lapped on Discovery, was another Arlington Handicap candidate asked for speed in the mud. He too was under steady restraint as he went a mile in 1:49%, pulled up an additional furlong in 2:04%. The son of Sir Gallahad III. did the first quarter in :27%, half in :54% and three-quarters in 1:21%. The Chicago-owned colt is certain to be heavily supported in Saturdays special because of his splendid performance in the Classic. Handi-apper John B. Campbell holds the colt in high regard, having assigned him scale weight of 114 pounds. Indian Runner, winner of the Arlington Inaugural and Stars and Stripes Handicaps these past two years, will carry six pounds less than" the scale with an impost of 120 pounds. Robert A. Smith, Brookmeade Stable trainer, plans to enter three horses in Saturdays special and should the going be muddy, may start all three. Inlander, last years Classic winner, has shown himself a first class mudder, while Good Goods and Time Clock will be the stable hopes on a fast track.
