OFFICIAL FAMILY COMPLETE | Judge C. W. Hay Arrives From Kentucky , to Act as Steward at Popular Cicero Course. The official family for the Hawthorne I meeting — which begins to carry on the Chicago racing program next Monday with a . thirty-day meeting — was completed Wednesday • when judge C. W. Hay arrived from I Kentucky. General manager of Washington Park, Hay has been selected to serve as one of the stewards at Hawthorne. He has i been visiting his farm in Kentucky. Of the other two stewards, Chris FitzGer-ald • is representing the Illinois Racing Commission • at the present Arlington meeting, , just as he will do at Hawthorne. Francis i Dunne, who will serve both as the third 1 steward and as racing secretary, *s likewise a member of the official family at Arlington Park. Starter Jack Hodgins, who visited Hawthorne several weeks ago to take cate of several preliminary details in connection with adjusting the new infra-red ray timing devices, has returned and has been schooling horses all week. Most of the 1,200 horses for which stalls have been reserved at the west side race course, will naturally- come from Arlington, and many of them will not be sent to Hawthorne until the Arlington meeting ends Saturday. Several hundred from outside tracks, attracted by the excellent opportunities which Hawthorne is offering this season to members of the handicap division, are gradually drifting in and carrying on their training preparations for opening day. The first opportunity that the handicap stars will have to win a purse will come with the running of the Berwyn Handicap at six furlongs on opening day. Entries must be made Friday of this week, with weights Saturday. Present indications are for a field of about ten to face the barrier, with Ed Trotters Isaiah and William Sach- »enmaiers Cabezo among the likely choices.
