Y„ July 25.— Walter S. Vosburgh has announced the weights for the American Legion Handicap and the Saratoga Handicap. The first named prize is a dash of seven furlongs to be run Monday, the opening day of the Saratoga Springs meeting, while the Saratoga Handicap, at a mile and a quarter, is down for decision Saturday, August 4. For the opening day sprint feature Mrs. John Hertz Pairbypair is at the top with a burden of 126 pounds. He is followed by Larranaga and Crowning Glory, both under 124 pounds, and Tick On, an £. R. Bradley candidate, is in at 120 pounds, just the same ; notch as Blind Bowboy. Okapi, winner of the Toboggan Handicap, is in nicely with 1 119 pounds as his burden, and George D. Widener s Chicstraw leads the three-year-olds under 118 pounds. Winooka was named for this running and he was weighted at 118 pounds, which is interesting ] merely as a Vosburgh estimate of the Australian sprinter. . For the Saratoga Handicap, which is of infinitely more importance, though there is J only ,500 added, Equipoise is naturally at the top, and his assignment is 132 pounds, with Dark Secret handicapped at 123 pounds, despite his recent bad races. Ladysman, which whipped Equipoise in the Suburban Handicap, is asked to take up 122 pounds, and Faireno surely has none the best of it j when he is rated at the same notch, despite his bad performance. . Mr. Khayyam is in under 120 pounds, and * at that weight he is required to give Tick On two pounds. In this handicap the three- " year-old honor goes to Joseph E. Wideners Belmont Stakes winner, Peace Chance, when he is handicapped at 114 pounds. This son I of Chance Shot was denied his chance in the Classic by reason of a wrenched knee, and here he is rated as three pounds better than the weights.
