DETROITS OFFER FOR CAVALCADE-EQUIPOISE RACE 1 Continued from first page. them might result in a slow pace for the first three-quarters, and a sprint through the stretch, which wculd be unsatisfactory to all concerned and would settle nothing definitely as to the merits of the two horses. By tempting some speed horses into the race which would carry the field the first five-eighths in a minute or better and the first threee-quarters in 1:12, it could then be determined which of the champions could come home the last quarter after being subjected to such pressure of pace. As Mrs. Sloanes first choice would be Detroit, it is likely that Mr. Whitney would1 want the second race run at New York and the third could probably be run in Mary- land. This would give every section of the country, from the middle West to the seaboard, an opportunity to see the two champions settle definitely the question of supremacy and would give a stimulus to racing which is needed at this time.
