TWO CARLOADS FROM COLUMBIA NEW YORK, N. Y., April 9. The first shipment from Columbia, S. C, to reach New York this spring arrived Tuesday morning when two carloads of horses owned by Mortimer and Charles Schwartz and the Kershaw Stable of Barney Baruch reached Belmont Park. Max Hirsch supervised the unloading of the Schwartz lot, while Miss Mary Hirsch was in charge of the Kershaw band. The horses were bedded down in stalls that had been prepared for them, and stable attaches reported that the trip was completed in fast time. Miss Hirsch, recently granted a trainers license by The Jockey Club and the state racing commission, stated that she was glad to return to New York and that she would start several of her charges during the Jamaica meeting. Max Hirsch reported that his charges had wintered well and were well advanced in their training. George Odom, with one carload, is expected Wednesday, while the horses of the Brookmeade Stable, Mrs. John Hertz and the Maemere Farm were delayed one day in shipping and will be h,ere either Thursday or Friday.
