LADF1ELD IN EASY VICTORY Runs Three -Quarters in 1:11 to Take Grade B Handicap at Havre. Quickly Defeats Night Sprite in Supplementary Attraction Crowd of 10,000 Enjoys Fridays Good Racing. HAVRE DE GRACE, Md., April 19 Mrs. Charles Cranes Ladfield, confidently ridden by "Sonny" Workman, coasted to an easy victory in the Grade B Handicap, the six furlongs feature of a pleasant afternoon of racing at the Harford course this afternoon. Four lengths away, E. K. Brysons Our Mae was a tiring second, a half length in advance of J. E. Hughes Silent Shot, a hard-urged third in the field of six. Ten thousand fans, the largest crowd of the meeting to date, saw the six-year-old son of Ladkin shoulder 116 pounds and turn back his opponents without drawing a long breath. His score was popular as he had been installed a stout favorite, closing at 3 to 2. Workman rode so confidently that Lad-fields supporters were never given a moment of worry. Though Our Mae, under a feather impost, whirled away in front and set a brisk pace for half a mile, Workman had Ladfield at her heels under heavy wraps. Leaving the quarter pole he called upon the son of Ladkin, and the latter surged to the front without effort and drew out into a winning margin of four lengths through the final furlong. His time was 1:11. Our Mae was burned out in the early pace and was tiring at the end. However, she managed to stave off Silent Shots belated challenge for second place by half a length. The latter, a noted runner, did not appear at his best on the lightning-fast track. The five-year-old sprinter was making her second start since her successful Florida campaign, and she had all her speed, flashing to the front from the barrier and leading all the way to finish a length in the van still in hand. Her time was a brisk l:i2. Night Sprite, with Workman plying his whip freely, pressed the flying winner throughout. The Nocturnal colt moved up dangerously entering the stretch but flattened out when the real issue came and had to be content with second place. Dokas raced evenly but never seriously threatened the leaders. Sang Froid had- no excuses. The apprentice allowance was waived or Goody Goody Friday and the filly - carried 100 pounds. Jockey J. Kleinbard accepted his firsl mount of the meeting when he rode Gooc Sense for L. G. Blume in the seventh race Friday. James F. Latane, former chairman of th Maryland Racing Commission, was an in terested spectator Friday. Jockey R. Merritt canceled his remaininj mounts after riding Sang Froid for th Howe Stable in the third race Friday. Mer ritt complained of feeling ill. -
