BLUEBEARD ON INJURED LIST Fairbanks Kentucky Derby Candidate Nursing Infected Heel, Caused by Imbedded Gravel. LOUISVILLE, Ky., April 19 Bluebeard, son of Blue Larkspur and Herodias, for which Mrs. R. B. Fairbanks, of Indianapolis, gave William R. Coe, New York owner-breeder, a reported 5,000, less than two weeks ago, may be out of the Kentucky Derby. Acquired for the express purpose of carrying the Fairbanks canary and blue silks in that famous Churchill Downs race, the fleet-footed gray three-year-old, after several fast trials since he changed hands, is on the training sidelines, nursing an ailing forefoot. The ailment, an infected heel believed to have resulted from Imbedded gravel, was discovered yesterday bjr trainer Arthur Gold- blatt. Since the infected area was twice pierced by the lancing needle and while Goldblatt today reported the colt so much improved that he was again putting full weight on the foot, there is an even chance that he may not answer the Derby bugle call. When questioned as to when Bluebeard would resume serious training, Goldblatt replied that everything in connection with the colts further conditioning hinged upon the ailing foot. "He is responding nicely to treatment," said Goldblatt, "and we may get him out again in a day or two." Since arriving here from California three weeks ago, the former Coe racer, a winner of two stakes at Santa Anita, displayed keen speed in, several private trials. Considering that he no doubt was handicapped by the infected foott his several fast rehearsals are all the more remarkable. A slight soreness, or favoring of the ulcerated heel, following his last workout, caused trainer Goldblatt to i make the examination that revealed the injury.
