SPEED began quickly, displayed nice speed"while setting the pace, but had to be vigorously ridden during the closing eighth to withstand SANTAN. The latter raced in closest pursuit of the -winner from the beginning and was gaining rapidly approaching the finish. PICCOLO showed greenness in the early racing, but closed gamely when reaching the home stretch. MR. QUICK bettered his position on the outside and closed gamely. PETER PEPPER weakened gradually in the final drive. DEEP RUN lost ground for the entire trip. BEAU THOR was in trouble early and was gaining steadily when entering the stretch run. CANCEL gained command soon after the start, drew clear when reaching the home stretch, and held DANCING MACK safe in the final drive. DANCING MACK was kept within striking distance of the leaders; responded willingly, and closed gamely on the outside during the final drive. SMALL CHANGE, a keen factor all the way,, held on well after saving ground in the final issue. HARD CHASE, far out of contention for the first half mile, weaved her way between horses in the last three-sixteenths, and finished with a bold rush. MARYS MAY finished gamely. ADVOCATE JUNIOR lacked speed and could "not engage the leaders. LANDSMAN weakened after reaching the home stretch. PEKIN and POOP DECK stopped. Scratched 08935Mr. Pete, 106; 09101 Edyth M., 102. QUICKLY, hurried into the lead.after breaking forwardly, was steadied in front while resisting strong1 opposition from NIGHT SPRITE, saved ground and had speed in reserve at the end. NIGHT SPRITE followed close up under urging in the early racing, ""made repeated efforts under punishment, but failed to challenge seriously. DOKAS bettered his position on the outside and was racing stoutly nearing the end. SANG FROID, prominent in the early racing, saved ground but failed to menace when the real issue came. LADFIELD, going strongly and in close pursuit of OUR MAE, wore the pacemaker down midway of the home stretch and drew out rapidly nearing the finish. OUR MAE had good speed while setting the pace, saved ground, but could not stay with the winner when collared. SILENT SHOT was vigorously ridden in the last half mile and finished stoutly. He was worked out a mile. SUN MONK, on the inside during the first three-eighths, fell .back at the turn and then was steered very wide during the stretch run. He closed strongly. FOUR SPOT, in the thick of contention from the beginning, assumed a brief lead in the last three-sixteenths, continued strongly under a vigorous drive, and just lasted long enough. ILCHESTER, steadied in front after gaining command going to the first turn, held on courageously after being displaced, and fcught it out willingly. ATMOSPHERE handled his weight well and held on gamely to outstay LUCULENT LUCULENT was racing stoutly in the final test. DEADEYE DICK, caught in tight quarters when the break came, worked his way into a contending position between his field, responded strongly to punishment when reaching the home stretch, and was up right at the end. FLAT ROCK, going in his best form, reached the leaders steadily, wore HIDDEN LORE down and held on stoutly. HIDDEN LORE took command when leaving the back stretch, saved ground, but failed to rally when nearing the finish. GOODY GOODY, crowded back going to the first turn, finished gamely when finding racing room. REPEAL could not menace in the arly racing: GAY PARTY was held safe. ZEMBLA, as usual, slow to get going, circled her field and closed stoutly. AIRWAY, prominent in the early racing, tired in the final quarter mile after gaining a slight lead. FAIR MOLE closed a good gap. WAR TIDE raced forwardly and had ho mishaps. GEORGE JESSEL was unable to enter contention. SIMPLE SINGER began tiring after six furlongs.
