Evergold Largest Gleaner Among Purse Winning Horses Silvio Coucci Bides Fifteen Winners. 4 Bowies eleven-day meeting from April 2 to April 13, opening the major season of racing in the East, was an unqualified success, the most successful season in recent years for the Southern Maryland Agricultural Association. The association gave away a total of 2,835, a daily average of ,621.36. The Shandon Farm Stable was the most successful owner with winnings of ,055, the majority of it won on the final day of the meeting when Evergold won the Southern Maryland Handicap and Bright Light scored in the Bowie Kindergarten Stakes. The B. B. Stable amassed about half as much as the Shandon Farm Stable when its colorbearers earned ,605. Evergold nosed out Good Harvest, Howe Memorial Handicap winner, in the race for money winning honors among the horses, Evergolds winnings amounting to ,375 while Good Harvest earned ,255. Silvio Coucci took riding honors easily with fifteen winners and J. J. Greeley and J. H. Stotler sharing honors as the leading trainers with six winners each.
