ALAMO DOWNS TRACK READY San Antonios Twenty-One Day Meeting Opening on April 25. 00 Minimum Purses With Increases in : Values of Handicaps and Allowance Races Interest Horsemen. ARLINGTON DOWNS, Texas, April 19. Great interest in the forthcoming meeting at Alamo Downs race track, April 25, through to May 18, is being evidenced at Arlington Downs among horsemen campaigning here. The 00 minimum purse, coupled with increased purses for handicaps and allowance races, and reports from San Antonio of a resurfaced track, have done much to intrigue the attention of the owners, and several hundred horses will be shipped to Alamo Downs following the close of the Waggoner meet. Latest to forward applications to Raymond Russell, president of the Alamo track, are George F. Jenkins, O. G. Rasch, J. Freedman and others. Freedman will send twelve head, led by Dark Conquest, Gift of Roses and Penncote. Others in the string are Garden Message, Mannie, Royal Gold, Major Holcombe, Sadie F., Toano, Scotch Pepper, Owen and Cold Spill. Jenkins will ship Black Peter, Cloister Blues, Hudson Bay, Carlue, Hy Lou, Kanal and Arajon. Raschs stable will be composed of Southard, Edith W., Sun Pooch and Ace Up. Ross O. Higdon has also requested that fourteen stalls be reserved for his extensive string of racers, led by Sweeping Light, one of the best handicap performers in the country. Higdon has not yet definitely made up his mind to ship to San Antonio, but should he come to that decision it will bring a famous thoroughbred to the Alamo races. This fellow has met the best in the land without flying the flag of truce, and should be a major factor in the division of the spoils at the southern Texas course. J. D. Mikel also contemplates shipping his entire string to Alamo Downs instead of splitting it up. Sixteen head are already stabled at San Antonio, and if he ships the others of the outfit his will be the largest outfit on the grounds. N. Merritt will go along to do the booting. Railroad officials report that six carloads of horses are already made up to ship from Arlington Downs immediately following the close of the meeting, and they will be unloaded at Alamo on Sunday, April 21. This day, incidentally, marks the first open house of the spring. The stables, grandstands and clubhouse will be thrown open for inspection throughout the day, and Alamo Downs will be host to a large number of San Antonio horse enthusiasts.
