SKY WARRIOR, away in the first flight wore down the leaders in the first quarter, moved to the front on the outside in the stretch and held IN STEP safe under mild urging. IN STEP, in motion before the others, showed good early speed, but quit very badly in the stretch. CHATANTELL, slow to find his best speed and "racing on the outside, closed well, but could not menace the first two. WAR HASTE raced evenly, but could not improve his position. CANDY FEAST, slow to find her best speed, gradually improved her position while racing on the outside, moved into a contending position on the final turn, wore down BALD CREST in the stretch and had something left at the finish. BALD CREST had keen early speed, assumed command immediately after the start, drew into a long lead on the turn and saved ground throughout, but tired at the end. UVIRA, reserved off p- the early pace, responded well in the final eighth, but was not good enough. THERMAL, away in the first flight, showed good speed, but tired badly. SOPHRON, fractious at the post, broke with the leaders, but could not keep up. ARDAWN had some speed. ROMOLA was practically left. CELERITAS, reserved from the early pace, was sent after the leaders at the twelfth fence, easily disposed of SWANSEA, thereafter headed LEADGOLD at. the final obstacle, but had to be hard urged to the finish. LEADGOLD, close up from the start, took a -"short lead when MADAME WARD fell, shook off a challenge from SWANSEA, jumped outward on the final fence when running abreast of CELERITAS and finished gamely. SWANSEA, always a forward factor, weakened in the final drive. KNOCKENARRIGAN went evenly, but was always outrun. MADAME WARD had some speed, but fell at the seventh fence. KHAKI JOHN, placed forwardly from the beginning, raced CANDY MAN into submission after the first quarter, saved ground on the inside and outlasted AYMOND after a long stretch drive. AYMOND, always a forward factor, raced on the outside of KHAKI JOHN from the far turn, moved into a brief lead inside the eighth post, but received little help from his rider in the drive. CANDY MAN could not keep up with the fast early pace after the first quarter," but hung on well. ACAJOU raced evenly. TABSON could not keep up. 4RBRANCH dropped out of it ri?ht after the start. FRIGID FROSTY, reserved for a half mile, secured racing room on the inside to assume a short lead when leaving the half-mile ground, saved ground thereafter and was -vigorously handled to stall off FINESSE. The latter moved up threateningly after a half mile, was given a respite while racing abreast the winner, came to the outside of the leader in the drive and just failed to get up. WM. ALLAN JR., slow to find his best speed; closed stoutly in the final stages. GRANITE ROCK, slow as usual in the early stages, closed with a rush. DIE CAST had good early speed, but could not keep up. ONLY FOOLIN was rated behind the pace until reaching the far turn, moved to the front quickly and without effort on the turn, was taken in hand when safely in front, shook off DEEDIE with ease and was in hand at the finish. DEEDIE, reserved from the early pace, moved to the leaders on the outside midway of the back stretch, made a bid to reach the winner in the stretch, but was not good enough. BLACK STOCKINGS lacked early speed, moved up between horses in the stretch and finished stoutly. GEORGE DE MAR, slow in the early sta-ges, as usual, closed well. FAN had good early speed, but quit. FRIAR CLIFF, rated behind the pace of NOBLE SPIRIT until turned into the stretch, moved up quickly on the outside of the leader, subdued the latter in the drive and was going away at the finish. NOBLE SPIRIT took a long early lead, was rated in front into the stretch, then tired badly when put to a drive. LUGANO, a trailer in the early stages, closed quickly on the outside. YELLOW METAL, far back, as usual, saved ground on the inside and closed with good speed. SOCIALITE, fractious at the post, broke from the outside, leaped into the air at the start, then made up some ground in the running.
