ADVOCATE JUNIOR, well handled, was away fast, moved up on the outside leaving the back stretch, responded gamely to brisk handling and was up in the concluding strides. KOWTOW, prominently placed from the outset, assumed a slight lead in the stretch, fought it but courageously and just failed to last. BROMIDE, hustled to the front soon after the start, was unable to draw clear, but fought it out gamely to the close. ROSE HAZEN closed ground in the last three-eighths. JOE JAY had early speed, though unable to keep up with the leaders after leaving the back stretch. MATCH never could enter into serious contention. STARRY NIGHT bore out badly at the stretch turn. PAY RACK displayed good speed from the start, shook off LOVE LOST, withstood a determined bid from MAIDWELL and, hard ridden, held QUEEN HELEN safe. The latter, restrained early, moved up gradually and closed with good energy. TWENTY KARAT moved up in the run through the back stretch, dropped back rounding the turn and closed gamely in the last eighth; her rider lost his whip jiearing the sixteenth post. MAIDWELL moved up in threatening fashion approaching the stretch, but was unable to improve her position in the drive. LOVE LOST, quick to begin, displayed early speed, but weakened in thejast three-sixteenths. The others were never prominent. Overweight Tippo Tip, 2 pounds; Passing Sun, 1. Won ridden out ; second and third driving. - FRED ALMY, away fast, lacked speed to hold his position, was permitted to settle into his stride, moved around on the outside in the last five-sixteenths and closed stoutly through the stretch run. STAROGAN was a prominent factor from the start, was much used in disposing of ALWINTOUR and had nothing left with which to stall off the winner. CHIEF A. moved up gradually, found clear sailing on the inside through the stretch and finished with a rush. ALWINTOUR was hard ridden throughout and faltered in the closing three-sixteenths. ZULU LAD, under stout restraint for the first five-sixteenths while working his way up gradually, came to the outside in the stretch and, catching the leaders tiring, was going away at the finish. LOVITO followed the. early pace established by JESSIE D. M. and held on well to the close. STEPBROTHER worked his way up steadily and finished with a rush on the inside through the final eighth. JESSIE D. M. went to the front at oifce, drew clear, but quit through the stretch. GIFTED LADY, slow to get going, closed stoutly in the last five-sixteenths. CROWDED HOURS, taken back off the pace, swung to th inside at the last turn and closed gamely. GUNWALE forced the pace, but tired in the last quarter mile. GRANDPAS BOY, placed under punishment approaching the far turn, moved up steadily, -loomed up threateningly on the stretch turn, but dropped back steadHy thereafter. TARTAN BETSY followed in closest pursuit of the pace, found clear sailing on the inside and, closing in determined fashion, was along inside the last sixteenth to wear down FOREIGN LADY. The latter was under reserve during the first five-eighths, raced to the front midway of the far turn and, though fighting it out courageously, was unable to stave off the winner. MANTADOS took command in the run to the first turn, opened up a good lead and, under snug restraint until the last five-sixteenths, barely lasted to save third. WINGED FLIGHT, outrun for the first three-quarters, closed some ground in the last three-sixteenths. WEEDIDIT made up some ground. Overweight Tartan Betsy, 1 pound; Migrate, 3.
