ARLINGTON PARK NOTES The Arlington Park Jockey Club never has been and is not now connected with any sweepstakes venture president Otto W Leh mann said Monday upon learning that a lot ¬ tery on the Arlington Futurity was being conducted by unknown persons and tickets were being sold in Chicago and other cities Most of these sweepstakes are bogus and the public should beware of them Mr Leh mann added addedUpon Upon completing his check within the next few days of the classifications of the horses that will be available for racing at Arlington Park racing secretary Charles J McLennan will issue his program book for the first ten days of the meeting starting July 1 During this period the features will include the Ar ¬ lington Inaugural Handicap which will close for entries next week the Stars and Stripes Handicap and the Hyde Park Stakes With a majority of the nations outstand ¬ ing stables to have representation at Ar ¬ lington McLennan is stressing events for the better classes of horses Arlingtons policy of 1000 minimum purses will bring them out was McLennans comment Mon ¬ day daySecretary Secretary McLennan has been instructed by president Lehmann to offer a race over the turf course on alternate days Turf rac ¬ ing was inaugurated at Arlington Park last summer and proved an immediate hit with public and horsemen alike Contests over the grass course offered patrons a pleasing diversion from racing over the main track while numerous trainers found some mem ¬ bers of their stables better campaigners over the turf turfArlington Arlington Parks turf course is a mile in circumference and is pronounced by inter ¬ national racing experts to be one of the finest in the world its turns being broad enough to prevent any appreciable amount of jamming and the nature of its grass be ¬ ing such as to permit the horses to obtain good footholds
