EPITAPH, in the thick of contention during the early racine, moved to the front readily, .opened up a clear lead when reaching the home stretch, came out into the firmer footing and outstayed WAR SAINT under a drive. WAR SAINT, well placed in the early stages, reesponded gamely when forced to a drive and was going stoutly at the close while on the inside. DOGMATA sloughed when leaving the back stretch, took a wide course after recovering and finished in determined fashion. GOLDEN SEPTRE raced with the early leaders and held on gamely in the closing test. M. J. BRENNAN, squeezed back after the start, bettered his position steadily when finding racing room. DISTRACTING was hard ridden after getting into a short lead early, but was not good enough. CURLING displayed early foot. JACKiE D. assumed command when moving through on the inside of PASS EM BY leaving the back stretch, opened up a commanding lead at the turn for home and continuing strongly thereafter, drew out at will nearing the finish. HYPO, outrun after breaking nicely, responded to punishment when straightened into the home stretch and closed with good courage. CAPT. YARBROUGH, prominent in the early racing, held on gamely although no match for the first two. MOONBURN lacked speed after being squeezed back going into the turn "and was unable to threaten. PASS EM BY displayed high speed after the start, bore out rounding the turn, swerved to the inside, striking the fence when reaching the home stretch, arid had to be taken up in the last eighth. WIGGLE IN, hustled hard to maintain a forward position, gained command in the closing eighth and outstayed BRIGHT EMERALD. The latter securpd racing room on the inside, challenged strongly when reaching the stretch and fought it out stoutly under punishment. GENIE PALATINE improved her position gradually and held on gamely for the closing test. ARGOAN had good speed while setting the pace, shook off IN FRONT, but tired in the last quarter mile. STE. LOUISE sulked after getting away clearly and was never dangerous. IN FRONT showed good speed for five-eighths, then tired. PHRIXUS was unable to menace. GAY MINETTA stopped. TERRY ON lacked speed. Start good and slow. Won driving; second and third the same. JOHN P. W., cased back off the leaders and rated close up after being straightened into the back stretch, rallied to punishment in the last quarter mile, went into the lead when REIGH TETRARCH left the track and outstayed AU FOLLY under a hard drive. AU FOLLY gained steadily in the last half mile after being outrun for three-quarters and finished determinedly. SECURED followed within striking distance of the pacemaker, made a strong effort entering the stretch while on the outside, but tired badly in the last eighth. GAYLASS trailed most of the trip. INSULATED was never a factor. REIGH TETRARCH bolted and crashed into the inside rail at the three-sixteenths post while leading his field. Overweight Gaylass, 1 pound. BACHELOR DINNER, under stout restraint while chasing in pursuit of the pacemaker, assumed command with a rush when reaching the stretch, saved ground, but tired suddenly in the closing sixteenth. WARREN JR., outrun for the first half mile, came through on the inside in the final issue and finished full of run. BILLY BEE, unable to race forwardly in the early running, swung to the outside and finished with a belated rush. ENTHUSIASM showed nice speed for five-eighths. TRAGEDIAN broke slowly, was rushed into contention too soon and tired from his efforts. TIGHT WAD broke very slowly and closed a big gap. HAPPY EASTER raced evenly. MISS SYMPHONY and QUEEN GOVANS quit. Overweight Happy Easter, 1 pound; Miss Symphony, 1.
