CALUMET FARM;S BIG STABLE Warren Wright Plans to Race His Horses at Hawthorne Fine List of Juveniles. Warren Wrights extensive Calumet Farm Stable, under the direction of trainer Bert Williams, will open its 1936 summer campaign at the Hawthorne meeting, starting May 23. The Calumet Farm, with thirty-five stall reservations granted, will campaign throughout the meeting and there are few stronger stables in the land than that which Williams plans to bring here. Headed by the four-year-old Nellie Flag and the promising three-year-olds, Sun Teddy and Count Morse, the Wright stable consists mainly of two-year-olds as finely bred a list of youngsters as you can find. There are twenty-six of these now working at the Calumet Farm near Lexington, Ky. They will be shipped directly from the farm to Hawthorne, as will all the others. Nellie Flag, which is perfectly sound once more and even more strapping than she was as favorite in last years Kentucky Derby, is being pointed for the Hawthorne Sprint, to be run June 13 at six and one-half furlongs. The Chicago Derby, to be run a week later for a 5,000 added purse, is the object of Sun Teddy, Crossbow II., and Count Morse. Sun Teddy, by far the most promising of the Calumet youngsters last year, finished third in the Hopeful Stakes, but was not named for the Kentucky Derby. He likely will make his first stake start of the season in the Chicago Derby. Count Morse showed steady improvement as a two-year-old and in his final start was a gaining fifth in the Champagne Stakes won by Brevity. Like Count Arthur, he may show great improvement as a three-year-old. Hawthornes closing stake, the Illinois Owners Handicap will draw the entries of Nellie Flag, Calumet Dick and Crosbow II. Always of great interest to racing fans are the two-year-olds coming to the races for the first time. The list of youngsters to carry the devil-red Calumet silks is an imposing one. Most of them are home-bred, but five are high-priced ones from the Saratoga sales. Most expensive was a bay son of Victorian Waukulla, which brought ,600. There is a brother of the good Proclivity, flamed Nevertire, a s-n of Sir Gallahad III. Last Fling, a sister of Hada-gal named Lady Erne, a Gallant Fox Sunstroke colt named Galsun, two Bull Dog fillies, and Top Notcher, a colt by Chatter-ton Nellie Morse, making him a half-brother to Nellie Flag and Count Morse. Such well known sires as Diavolo, Man o War, Haste, Blue Larkspur, Pennant, American Flag, Dis Done and Pompey are represented on the Calumet list. Judge C. W. Hay, general manager of the Hawthorne track, had been assured by both owner Wright in Miami and trainer Williams in Lexington that the Calumet Farm Stable will be better represented during the coming meeting than ever before. Recent applications for stalls have been so numerous that an overflow is certain by the opening of the meeting.
