WENT TO POST 2:37. AT POST 1 minutes. Start good and slow. Won driving; second and third the same. BALKOS MAID settled in her stride quickly to gain command midway of the turn, drew into a clear lead when LADY DAY swerved entering the stretch, saved ground, but had to be strongly ridden approaching the finish. BERGERE, racing greenly in the early stages, settled in her stride when reaching the straightaway and closed with a tremendous rush on the outside. TRINA, slower than usual to gain her best stride, saved ground in the last quarter mile and closed resolutely. LADY DAY swerved when reaching the stretch and faltered ncaring the finish. DROWSY went well placed until reaching the stretch, then tired after swerving badly when placed to punishment. TULEYRIES RUBY could not get to the leaders. CRUSHED ICE raced greenly. SANG FROID, suited by the footing and rated off the pace for the first half mile, challenged strongly when reaching the stretch, came through between the leaders in the closing eighth, assumed command in the last sixteenth and was going away under pressure. ACAUTAW was hurried into the lead, stalled off repeated efforts from APPREHEND, but could not withstand the winner. APPREHEND forced a steady pace from the beginning and held on courageously in the closing test. DOWDY DELL went well placed but failed to threaten when put to a hard drive. WAR STRIPES suffered interference midway of the Lack stretch and could not menace thereafter. MAR PAL was badly outrun. Overweight Dowdy Dell, lg pounds. THIRD RACE 3-4 MILE Out of Chute. CURRANTS, fa voring the footing and a strong factor during the early running, displaced TELL IT when reaching the turn, saved ground in the late stages and won under stout urging. TELL IT sprinted into a clear lead in the opening three-eighths, rallied nicely when challenged and was racing gamely at the end. ABBOTS LAST, in tight quarters for the first three-eighths, obtained racing room on the outside and finished full of run; BOOCORD moved up menacingly at the turn, but tired after a strong bid. VANDA CERULEA was hurried into a forward position early but was not good enough in the final issue. JOBAKHETA suffered early interference. ITALIAN HARRY also met with trouble early. The latter raced prominently from the beginning, moved up gamely when put to a strong drive and came with good energy in the closing test. GALLOGLASS went forwardly and had no excuses. UNDULATE began tiring after going a half mile. SIR WINDSOR was held safe. The others were outrun. COMING BACK, taken in hand when unable to stay with RED BADGE, went to the pacemaker readily when shaken up at the final bend, took command without effort entering the stretch and finished with much in reserve. RED BADGE opened up a long lead when straightened into the back stretch, went along smoothly, but failed to rally when challenged and was under a tenacious drive to stall off MAD FRUMP. The latter, permitted to settle in his stride before making his run, went up on the outside but could not threaten seriously. PLAYOFF went along in the first flight for seven-eighths then tired. JUST REMEMBER continued strongly after moving into contention midway of the back stretch. TULEYRIES WAND had good speed for three-quarters then tired when overtaken. LUCKY TURN, far back in the early racing, made up some ground but was passing tired horses. U DEMON showed a dislike for the going and was never prominent. EUDES stopped badly.
