V HOLD SPOTLIGHT IN THE EAST Hollyrood Attracts Much Attention in Good Gallop at Belmont Park. Headley Star Due for Longer Work Sunday Teufel and Granville Monopolize Stage at Aqueduct. NEW YORK, N. Y., April 9. Hollyrood was in the limelight at Belmont Park this morning, while over at Aqueduct Teufel and Granville monopolized the center of the stage. The three Derby, Preakness and Belmont candidates were called upon for light exercise and turned in satisfactory efforts for their trainers. The Hal Price Headley colt was breezed six furlongs under steady restraint over the main track at Belmont, while the Wheatley stable and Belair Stud candidates were exercised at one mile. Hollyrood was out on the track early and his movements were watched by horsemen and others interested in racing. The colt was called upon for a six-furlong test and over the strip, which was pronounced good, was timed in 1:16. Under stout restraint all the way, he was timed the first half mile in :49 and finished out in 1:16. The second choice in the Kentucky event impressed work watchers by his stride and action, and it was the consensus of opinion that he could have gone much faster had his trainer so desired. The breeze was a preparatory move to a longer trial, probably Sunday morning when he will be asked to go a mile or better. Hollyrood is looked upon as a certain starter in the Wood Memorial, and following that race will be shipped west to Louisville, Ky. Trainer Headley expressed himself well satisfied with the condition of his charge and stated that Hollyrood would give a good account of himself in all of his races this year. Teufel, from the Wheatley Stable, and Granville, owned by the Belair Stud, were breezed eight furlongs over the Aqueduct course, which was slow. Teufel was teamed up with Invermark. The big son of Diavolo followed his stablemate closely during the early stages, moved into command when ready and at the finish was only galloping. The fractional times for the first part were :48, 1:15, 1:28 and he finished out in 1:45. Granville was teamed with Merry Pete. His trial was also impressive and the fractional time for this pair was :50, 1:17 and the full distance in 1:46, well in hand. Gran ville and Teufel are expected to face the starter in the Wood Memorial at Jamaica.
