. I BABE RUTH LIKES BREVITY LOUISVILLE, Ky., April 30.— Declaring Brevity is "the only horse in the race," j George Herman "Babe" Ruth, former home run king of the major leagues and now in j temporary retirement, arrived here from New York to see his first Kentucky Derby. Accompanied by his wife and daughter, Babe said that this marked the first year be has had an opportunity to watch the turf : classic at Churchill Downs, baseball, of : course, keeping him from Louisville. Ruth, a little more portly than when he was j knocking the ball out of the league in the uniform of a New York Yankee, will have a very substantial reason for rooting for Brevity in the Derby, for he let it be known , that he backed his faith in the J. E. Wide-ner colt with wagers in the future books. The former baseball hero will be the guest at the Derby of Ward Hillerich, son of J. A. Hillerich, who manufactured the bats with which Ruth propelled his famous home runs. Asked about the outlook in baseball this season, Ruth said it was too early to make any forecasts and "anyway, Im here to see the | Derby."
