MATTAPONY had good speed from the start, raced GLAD WINGS into defeat early, saved ground on the turns and withstood the challenee of BF.RGERE. The latter broke slowly, was forced to circle the field to enter contention and closed strongly. GLAD WINGS had good speed to take command early, but could not keep up. INDIANA raced evenly throughout, but had no excuses. CHALPHONE lacked speed to keep up in the early racing, but closed full of run when he settled into his stride. PAPER MOON, rated back of the leaders for a turn of the field, gradually moved into closer contention, wore down WORLD SERIES after the final fence, but was under pressure to the finish. WORLD SERIES, always well placed, moved into a short lead after the eighth fence, continued gamely to the end. but could not withstand the challenge of the winner. BRIAR BLUE, far back in the early running, moved up fast atter one mile and finished strongly. GREG ORMONT, in the thick of contention from the start, made a bold bid at the twelfth fence, but weakened thereafter. MEREDITH had good early speed and fenced stoutly, but weakened at the end. MID VALLEY fell at the ninth fence after showing good speed. FIGHTING COCK lost his rider at the ninth jump. BRAD made up some ground from a slow beginning, but ran out at the twelfth fence. WHISCENDA, quickest to begin and clear of interference, took a short lead in the early running, responded willingly to punishment when reaching the stretch, bore out all during the closing eighth, but had enough in reserve to withstand BRIEF. The latter improved her position on the outside when in full stride, lost ground entering the stretch, but finished gamely. STORY TIME forced a steady pace all the way and continued willingly under a hard drive. MAKING TIME, awav in the first flight, lacked speed to get to the front, saved ground, but could not threaten seriouslv. WHITE SWEETS could not better her position. MOONBURN was away slowly. SPOTLESS laced greenly and went wide all the way. GYPWICK needs schooling. GEMWICK was caught in a jam at the start and unseated her rider. DROLL STORY, rated closest to the pace of AT DUSK for five eighths, drew into command when leaving the back stretch, lengthened his lead through the stretch, but was kept under pressure at the end. LETTER BON gradually improved his position in the early running, moved up stoutly on the final turn and closed with good courage. FEZ, always a contender, raced evenly throughout, but could not better its position. GAYLASS trailed the field in the early stages, bettered its position slowly, but could not menace the leaders. AT DUSK flashed early speed to set the pace, but quit badly when headed. ANN VICTORY never entered serious contention. The oth»rs were outrun. Overweight — At Dusk, 34. pounds; Au Folly, 3. HEADIN HOME had good speed to set the early pace, weakened slightly when racing with FINISHER in the lead on the final turn, but came on again gamely under good handling. FINISHER, ahvavs well up. took a brief lead on the final turn, gave way to the winner and v.as tiring at the end. HUT lacked early speed while trailing the field, but closed very fast in the final quarter. INDIAN NEWS flashed some speed but could not keep up. MAJORITY RULE raced well in spots. MASTER LAD quit. GENlE PALATINE, rated within reach of the leaders in the run through the back stretch, moved up quickly on the final turn and wore PARADE GIRL down in the drive. The latter, alwas close up, disposej of AGAIN to take a short load in the stretch, gave way to the winner while continuing strongly. CARVOLA broke slowly, gradually bettered its position and finished with good speed. PARAGUAY TEA, sluggish at the start, lacked speed to engage the leaders, but made up some ground in the final quarter mile. AGAIN had early speed, took a short lead leaving the back stretch, but flattened out at the end. APPLE BETTY quit after showing early speed. JACK PATCHES, fastest away, immediately drew out into a clear lead, which was lengthened as his rider pleased, was never threatened and was in hand all the way. STACK ARMS disposed of MISS TWINKLE after half a mile, was no match for the winner, but easily held the others safe. TRUMPS raced evenly throughout, but could not make up ground. KTWO lacked early speed, but closed well. MISS TWINKLE had speed for half a mile, but quit. SUMAC was outrun. CHANNING could not keep up. Overweight — Sumac, 1 pound. EIGHTH RACE 1 1-16 MILES. TAUNTON, hard ridden to hold a forward position, took command leaving the back stretch, saved ground and held on willingly under a hard drive PLAYOFF, in the thick of contention all the way. continued with good courage until the end. REPEAL weakened after making a bid at the final turn. DONA DULCIN was rushed off her feet and failed to stav when collared. NIGHT RAY was held safe.
