AWAIT OPENING AT BEULAH About 700 Horses Available for First Ohio Meeting to Begin Saturday. COLUMBUS, Ohio, May 6.— In the neighborhood of 700 horses are stabled at Grove City awaiting the opening of Ohio racing at Beulah Park on Saturday, May 9. All stalls within the grounds have long been occupied and the latecomers are filling everything available in the vicinity. Recent arrivals at the course include James Bronnenberg, who brought eleven from Middletown, Ind., his winter quarters, headed by the fine sprinter. Odd Star. Others in his contingent are Snoops, Day Letter, Bell Cap, Red Prince, Baby Rollo, Odd Flash and the untried two-year-olds, Odd Glance, May Rock, Baby Tears and Diesel Age. Jerry Bronnenberg brought the veteran King Kelly and Candy Wrapper, a two-year-old, from Daleville, Ind., and Robert Dresbach came in from the same point with Frances Lou and Fair Sarah. Howard Hoffman arrived from Erlanger, Ky., with four belonging to J. B. Respess. The Highland Stock Farm quartet are Grand Manner, The Baby, Colonial Lady and Miracle Maid. Eight others will follow later. Other arrivals from Kentucky were Harry Weiner, who came from Churchill Downs with six, Kathryn Wattle, Apple Time, Betty Rejoice, Ealcona, Josie Jane and Nan Eliza- beth, and J. L. Butler, who brought four from Lexington. The Butler contingent in- eludes the four-year-old Dame Grundy, and three two-year-olds, Cracksman, Fight Back 9 and Night Talk. Jack T. Howard arrived from Havre de Grace with Byrdrye, Sambo Jones and My Little Bit, while another Maryland shipment was that of J. L. Armstrong. His two horses are Crossed Wires and Glynhurst. John Winans brought in six from Spencer, Ohio. They are Sneeze, Rough Lane and Disaki, and the two-year-olds High Sweet, Flush and Terracotta. Well over sixty two-year-olds are on the juvenile race program which is not ex-1 tensive. Forty riders have been approved by the stewards to ride at the meeting. Licenses have been refused to several. Francis Polk, contract rider for E. B. Shipp. who was the countrys leader until injured in a fall at New Orleans early in February that claimed the life of Homer Spears, will be here for the meeting. Others on the grounds include Pedro Martinez, Joe Sylvester, Kenneth McCray, George Dobson, Bill Lowe, George Quacken- bush, Bill Smith, Franklyn Tice, Ray Christensen, Stewart "Buddy" Vail, J. Long, Charles Mills, Claudie Quattlebaum and Karl Horvath. Apprentices on hand are William Gonzales, Pat Camp, H. Derden, A. Balducci, B. Gentile and M. Pentone. « ; i j j j | I I j ! !
