| NO FEAR OF TEST OF I THE CRAWFORD LAW | NEW YORK, May 6.— There was no unusual alarm among the layers at Jamaica over the opinion of Attorney General Bennett on the Crawford law and no fear was expressed that it would wipe out the present method of speculation. Tom Shaw said that a test of the law seemed inevitable and he had always expected such a test and that it would be easily possible that some sections of the Crawford measure might be declared unconstitutional -without declaring the whole act unconstitutional. Under the Crawford law the offense of betting is no longer a misdemeanor, as it was before its enactment. Under the existing measure the sole penalty is a civil forfeiture or a civil suit. The wiping out of this clause would in no sense threaten the j continuance of the existing method of specu-i lation. 1
