BOLD VENTURE FIRST ENTRY j ; IN 5,000 CHICAGO DERBY j Bold Venture, Morton L. Schwartz Kentucky Derby winner, is the first official nominee for the 5,000 added Chicago Derby, featuring the Hawthorne meeting, which opens May 23. President Albert Sabath of the Chicago Business Mens Racing Association announced this afternoon that the east. *n sportsman had wired in his colts entry for the Hawthorne feature. Some weeks ago the Bomar Stable announced its intention of starting Grand Slam in the Chicago Derby, but stake blanks were issued only last week, and Bold Ventures owner was first over the line with his nomination of the chestnut son of St. Germans i and Possible. For owner Schwartz the Chicago Derby is a 0,000 added affair, for conditions of the race call for an extra ,000 to be added to the winners purse should he already have captured either the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness or the Belmont Stakes. Bold Venture is eligible for all three previous events and his next start likely will be in the Preakness a week from Saturday. Unlucky as a two-year-old, Bold Venture has captured the first leg on the mythical three-year-old championship. But such were conditions in the Derby that many owners of leading three-year-olds still think they can beat him. It will be left to the Preakness and Belmont Stakes in the East and the Chicago Derby and Arlington Classic in the West to decide this. Hawthorne opens its thirty-one day meeting two weeks from Saturday with the running of the ,000 added Inaugural Handicap, at six furlongs.
