BEULAH PARK OPENS TODAY ■ 1 Over 600 Horses Available for Ohio Meeting — Well Matched Field for Inaugural Handicap. GROVE CITY, Ohio, May 8.— From present indications racing will be resumed at ; the Grove City course of the Beulah Park 1 Jockey Club tomorrow under most favorable 1 conditions. Although the racing strip has been muddy here for the past month, the j going has improved wonderfully under a , bright sun and mid-summer heat of the past ! two days. It should be fast tomorrow, pro- | i vidinj no additional rain visits this vicinity, which seems unlikely at this time. There are over 600 horses quartered here ready for action, but some are a little short 1 in their preparation on account of the back- jward spring weather. The jockey colony numbers thirty-four, including nine apprentice riders. A majority i of them are well known to racing fans in I Ohio. The apprenticeship allowance of jockey 1 W. Gonzales will become void on Wednesday I next. A field of five will meet in the Inau- 1 gural Handicap tomorrow at one mile, all 1 of which are new to Beulah Park patrons with the exception of Inglenook. Always iBlue seems likely to enjoy a good following, but the absence of Indian Salute, one of I the best horses here, caused some dis- : appointment. E. B. Shipp disposed of the contract he 1 held on jockey F. Polk to C. Troutt, and the lad departed last night for Aurora. All of the racing officials were at the track today making preparations for the opening.
