| OMAHA WINS FIRST 1 j START IN ENGLAND j LONDON, England, May 9.— William Woodwards Omaha, Americas champion three-year-old of 1935, with victories in the Kentucky Derby, Preakness, Belmont Stakes and Classic, signalized his debut on the English turf today by winning the Victor Wild Stakes, at one and one-half miles. Omaha was a 4 to 5 favorite. At the end of the long journey, he was one and one-half lengths in front of Mrs. MacDonald Buchanans Montrose, with Lady Abergavennys Lobau another five lengths back. Montrose won the City and Suburban Handicap of 1935. Omaha, a son of Gallant Fox, arrived in this country early this year and was placed in charge of Capt. Boyd-Rochfort. The I Woodward colt had gone lame last August while preparing for the Travers at Saratoga, and it was not known if he had fully recovered. Subsequent workouts proved Omaha sound, however, with the result he was a short priced favorite for todays race, which drew a field of six. His chief objective is the two and one-half miles of the Ascot Gold Cup, which will be run at Royal Ascot, June 18.
