FINISHING TOUCHES AT OMAHA Army of Workmen Completing Improvements to Ak-Sar-Benu Plant — Inaugural May 28. OMAHA, Neb., May 9.— With the opening of the Ak-Sar-Ben running race meeting i May 28, less than three weeks away, local ; officials are busily engaged putting finish- I ing touches to the many improvements be- I ing made at the Omaha plant. An army of workmen is dressing up the plant, putting everything in readiness for ! the thirty-three-day meeting, longest in Ne- i braska history. With more than 300 thoroughbreds now . under roof here, a record entry seems as- ! sured. Few of the California entries have arrived yet, but the 150 coming from the West Coast are expected to start rolling towards Omaha next week. Just as last year, a firm of Omaha certified public accountants has been engaged to check all operations in the pari-mutuel room, where Herman Frank will preside again as manager. A new official announced is J. L. Watkins, placing judge from Columbus, Ohio. All key men in the racing organization have been named now. Martin Nathanson, presiding steward from Chicago, has informed Ak-Sar-Ben officials that he will be here about May 18. Eugene W. Bury, racing secretary, will be j back in Omaha about the same date after a swing around Texas, Kentucky and Illinois racing strips recruiting horses for the local meeting. Timers Eugene Schwartz and Otto Tor-rell, who clicked the stop watches at last ! years meeting, are already on the scene. 1 i
