I CLASSIC NOMINATIONS Thirty -Seven Three -Year -Olds Named for Arlingtons Prize. Granville, Hollyrood, Rushaway, Mr. Bones, Grand Slam and Others Prospective Starters. Headed by Granville, hero of the historic Belmont Stakes, thirty-seven of the best three-year-olds in training in this country have been nominated for the Classic Stakes, the mile and a quarter special likely to crown the champion of this wide-open division in its eighth running at Arlington Parks racing grounds here on Saturday, July 25. Carrying the prestige of the most importance race in the mid-summer season, the background of establishing earlier three-year-old champions such as Blue Larkspur, Gallant Fox, Cavalcade and Omaha, and a gross prize estimated at 5,925, if ten start as in 1935, the Classic should write a colorful passage in the exciting history of the 1936 three-year-old division. With Granville, William Woodward has also nominated Isolater and Merry Pete. The master of Belair Stud will be striking for his third triumph in the Classic for he won the race in 1935 with Omaha and in 1930 with Gallant Fox, the sire of both Omaha and Granville. James Fitzsimmons, trainer of the Belair Stud horses, also has in his entourage two Wheatley Stable candidates, the Wood Memorial winner, Teufel, and Seabiscuit, a stake winner in New England as a juvenile. Promise of a renewal of the thrilling Belmont Stakes duel wherein Granville gained a handsbreadth decision over John Hay Whitneys Mr. Bones, is held out with the inclusion of the latter in the Classics pretentious list. Hollyrood and Sparta, which ran one-two in the Detroit Derby for Hal Price Headley last Saturday, have been nominated.
