DISCOVERY VS. CAVALCADE Both Nominated for Arlington and Stars and Stripes Handicaps. Both Horses Training Well Enough to Predict Meeting in One of Arlingtons Rich Prizes. ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, 111., June 20. Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilts Discovery, king-of Americas cup horses in 1935, and the Brodkmeade Stables Cavalcade, which he could never defeat as a juvenile and a three-year-old, may yet meet again, for both are nominated for the Stars and Stripes Handicap and the Arlington Handicap, the two 0,000 stakes for older horses at Arlington Parks thirty-day meeting, which opens here Monday, June 29. Numerous efforts were made to bring together Discovery and the 1934 three-year-old champion, but Cavalcades injured hoof kept him out of action even as late as the Santa Anita Handicap. Now both horses are training well enough in the East to warrant their nominations in Arlingtons, two distance stakes. The mile and a furlong Stars and Stripes Handicap, to be run on July 4, attracted forty-two horses, and the mile and a quarter Arlington Handicap, on August 1, drew forty nominations, announced Roy Carruthers, secretary of the swank Chicago course, today. Included in these lists are virtually all of the ranking cup horses in this country. Other notables among those listed are El-wood Sachsenmaiers Roman Soldier, Hal Price Headleys Whopper and Hollyrood, Belair Studs Gallant Prince and - Palma, Brookmeades Good Goods, Psychic Bid and Delphinium, F. Estimated on the basis of ten starters, the Stars and Stripes will gross 2,840, and the Arlington Handicap will gross 2,800 this year.
