i HAWTHORNE TURF NOTES : Myrtlewood, winner of the Quickstep Handicap at Latonia, Sprint Handicap at Hawthorne and a leading contender for the sprint crown, worked three-quarters on c fast track around the "dogs" in 1:17 at Havvthoi-ne Saturday. H. P. Headleys Sparta is an intended starter in the Latonia Oaks and will be shipped to the Covington track next week. During the absence of Sam Molay, who was called to New Orleans because of the serious illness of a relative, Tommy Root is looking after the Molay horses here. Twelve stitches were required to close a cut suffered by Sailors Gift when she fell in the second race here Friday. The gash laid open the inside of her left foreleg. Ernie Mooar, with A. N. Goldbergs two-year-old filly, Stairs, is expected at Arlington Park from Detroit. Formal nomination of Calumet Farms Nellie Flag to the Illinois Owners Handicap was made Saturday by trainer Bert Williams. The race will be run next Saturday, closing day of the meeting. In her present form the Warren Wright filly promises to rule a prohibitive favorite to add her name to the list of winners of the ,000 added fixture. C. V. Whitneys Tatterdemalion will be shipped to New York, and A. G. Tarns Rush-away to Suffolk Downs Sunday. Jockey Mel Calvert returned from Detroit, while II. W. Fisher was at Latonia to ride Dixianas Swcepalot in the Cincinnati Trophy. Several of the two-year-olds he has at Mrs. T. M. Murphys Golden Maxim Farm in Kentucky are to bo taken up by A. Pelleted. Receiving their final training for the Chicago Derby, Baby Talk went seven furlongs in l:294,ft, Holl Image a half mile in :50, Doran three-eighths in :354,f and Carvola a like distance in :3G on a fast track at Hawthorne Friday morning. .
