ROSS HONOR GUEST AT OMAHA Welterweight Champion Witnesses Saturday Program of Ak-Sar-Ben Our Mortgage Wins. OMAHA, Neb., June 20. Barney Ross, welterweight boxing champion of the world, was the guest of honor at Ak-Sar-Ben field Saturday afternoon when a large crowd braved the oppressive heat to witness the running of an eight-race card. Players got off to a good start when they chose He Devil as their champion in the Nebraska-bred race, which came first on the card, but did not fare so well in the second event when Elanac went down to defeat. Epinel was the winner of the second race and her score was responsible for apprentice E. Harlow graduating from the ranks of the maiden riders. Harlow performed well, hav- ing his charge off in a forward position and " hustling her along to the finish to beat Otra Vez by one length, while Foxes Folly finished third. He Devils victory was not in accordance with the price, as the gelding had to be hustled every inch of the way to win narrowly from Our Spot, with Bud Smith third. v He Devil was ridden by W. Root. The third race resulted in a very close finish between Our Mortgage, a field horse,-and Lovers Chat, the favorite, with the former getting the award. To grandstand patrons it seemed as if Lovers Chat finished at least on equal terms with Our Mortgage but the judges, from their place on the finish line, caught Our Mortgage in front. Our Mortgage was coupled in the field with Flashing Thru, which finished third.
