PUMICE STONE hurried into a forward position going to the first turn, followed close up until approaching the final turn, took a short lead and, holding on resolutely thereafter, barely lasted to stall off CANPRA. The latter, going in improved fashion, reached a contending position in the last five-sixteenths, slipped through on the inside at the stretch turn and was gaining steadily at the close. SIR ROSE, a keen factor all the way, bung badly after making a bold spurt entering the stretch. LADY CARROT could not better her position in the final drive. BENGAY was racing gamely at the end. CHIEF HOLLIS was used up forcing the early pace. STIPULATE lost ground all the way. EXAGGERATION quit badly. MARIOLET, under slight restraint in the early running, worked her way into contention midway of the final turn, fought her way through between the leaders in the last eighth and, under a strong drive, was up in the last twenty yards. FIRST PIGEON, slower than usual at the break. laced into contention rapidly, rallied to punishment and fought it out strongly rearing the end. PEPPER PATCH disposed of HARD CHASE when leaving the hack stretch, saved ground and held on tenaciously when collared. SILVERY CLOUD raced forwardly and continued gamely in the closing test. ENERGETIC LADY could not enter contention. TIEMPO raced in spots. TUNEFUL was never a factor. INFILEE broke very slowly. HARD CHASE quit to a walk. BETTYS BUDDY, given a mild breathing spell after being rushed hard to enter contention, rallied willingly to urging when reaching the stretch and, closing stoutly, wore down GAY BALKO in the final sixteenth. GAY BALKO moved to the front soon after the start, saved much ground, but tired fast in the last eighth. SHOWABAL was stout ridden from the start, but tired in the last quarter mile and was bearing out at the end. JOURXEY ON closed a good gap after being very slow to settle into his stride. IRREPRESSIBLE was done after going three-eighths. MAKALAW was on the outside throughout. TITANICAL could not threaten. Overweight Gay Balko, 1 pound; Showabal, 5; Makalaw, 2. PRAIRIE DOG had good speed while setting .the pace, saved ground and held on gamely when forced to a hard drive. SIAM, away well but lacking early speed circled his field and finished full of run. MR. CANRON moved up fast at the turn out of the back ilretch, but tired in the last quarter mile. SUN PHANTOM was under stout urging all the way. WISE SISTER, under restraint while following AMPERSAND, took command at the final turn, came out from the rail on the stretch turn and tired under punishment. CONQUER could not menace seriously in the final drive and outstayed tiring horses. JIMMII CABANISS failed to threaten. AMPERSAND quit badly. ALFRED THE GREAT trailed all the way.
