DISQUALIFICATION AT EPSOM Scrip Money Set Back After Finishing on Top in Second Race. Turse Awarded Daisy Bane, With Parqua Pass, the Victim, Given Place Honors Hearty Popular Winner. HOUSTON, Texas, Oct 14. One of the most attractive and best-balanced programs of the current Epsom Downs meeting was presented before a large mid-week gathering or thoroughbred patrons, Wednesday afternoon, as part of the celebration of Elks Day at the Texas Breeders and Racing Associations track. Two handicaps, one a sprint and the other over a distance, served as the features, occupying fourth and fifth places on the card and brought together the best performers in their respective divisions. The Elks Handicap, a dash of six furlongs, was the first of the features being staged fourth, while In the fifth the Rangers Handicap held the spotlight The varied offering was enlivened by the first disqualification of the season, when Scrip Money was ordered placed last after having finished in third place during the stretch racing. EASY TRIUMPH. The Bedford Stock Farms Hearty scored an easy triumph in the H. A. Long Purse, third on the card, which was designed exclusively for two-year-olds at a distance of six furlongs. Two lengths to the rear of the winner came Sun Pilot and Margaret Jone3 drew up in third position in the field of six. The bay son of Greenock Jealous performed in a manner that indicated he was best of the half dozen juveniles, and was the first successful favorite of the day. Taking the lead right at the break, Hearty never relinquished the forward position and drew clear of Sun Pilot during-the last quarter of the dash to register with something in reserve. It was a one-two score for Texas-owned racers. ... Under the feather impost of i04 pounds and a superb ride, provided by C. Parke, Mrs. A. M. Creechs Min Ormont registered an easy vietory in the mile and a sixteenth . Elks Handicap, and in doing so she recorded the best time of the-mceting for the distance, which was 1:46 . The chestnut I daughter of Ormont defeated the Hernandez entry of Biography and Woodlander, which took down second and third money, re-, spectively. Mrs. Leo J. Remms Blue Train finished fourth. Biding his time, while Biography went to the front, Parke held Min. Ormont In reserve for a charge in the last quarter of the contest, which proved to be excellent judgment on the part of the Idaho lad, for had he attempted to keep pace with Biography the chestnut filly undoubtedly would have weakened when the final issue began. SIGNS OF DISTRESS. . As the field approached the stretch turn Min Ormont made her bid for recognition and it did not require much time to overtake Biography,, which had displayed signs of distress under his impost of 118 pounds and due to the fast pace set for five furlongs of the race. Once in front, Min Ormont quickly drew into the clear and held a length and a half margin over Biography at the conclusion, with the latter having a two lengths advantage over his fast finishing running companion, Woodlander. Overshoes, making his initial appearance of the season here, scored in the. opening race of the day, in which seven sprinters of the plater division traveled five and -a half furlongs. The six-year-old son of Kai-Sang Galoshes completed the distance a length in front of Gale Way, which, was a length . and a half in front of John Bane, the favorite. Taking a slight lead in the first quarter of the contest. Overshoes was hard pressed for a half mile of the journey but thereafter drew clear and held Gale Way safe to the end. The Judge and Gale Way were the chief contenders during the early stages but were found wanting when the real test came. COSTLY INTERFERENCE. The first disqualification of the season was ordered in the second race which was captured by Scrip Money but the decision was awarded to Daisy Bane, with Parqua Pass moving up to second and Zorana being advanced to third position after the stewards interviewed the riders in the stand. Scrip Money, in overtaking Parqua Pass during the stretch run, crossed over too sharply to the rail and forced J. R. Hill, on Parqua Pass to take up quickly oh his tiring : charge. Parqua Pass had set the pace for . most of the three-quarters of a mile jaunt . with Zorana second and Scrip Money in ; third place but when the stretch was i reached the latter gained rapidly and suc-, ceeded in taking the lead to cross the finish : line two lengths in front.
