KINDERGARTEN . HEADS . BOWIES INAUGURAL CARD : Muddy Footing Probable for Initial Program of Eastern Season Charlotte Girl, Star of Miami Sport, Favorite for Opening Day Stake Race Shining One, Pompoons Half Brother, Among Eligibles BOWIE, Md., March 31. The long racing season along the upper reaches of the Atlantic seaboard, a period which will not terminate until the last day of November, after an uninterrupted run of eight months, will be under way at Prince Georges Park tomorrow with the renewal of the Bowie Kindergarten Stakes, headlining an interesting program. As has been the custom for many years, the opening at the track atop the hill, midway between the nations capitol and Baltimore, serves a double purpose, introducing not only- the Maryland season, but also that of the entire East. If the interest expressed in the two principal cities nearest the course counts, Bowie is in for one of the most prosperous spring ses- sions in its history. The deeds of War Admiral, Seabiscuit and Stagehand have stirred enthusiasts in these parts considerably during re-j cent months and now all are eager to see the thoroughbreds in action once more, evenM though no such illustrious performers as theB top trio will swing into action during earlypP April days. NO LACK OF HORSES. However, there are horses in abundance quartered on the grounds with the overflow reaching into Laurel, so there should be nc lack of performers to provide well filled proJB grams and keenly competitive sport. The Kindergarten, a half mile event whuJ will be the main money race of the inauguraH attracted only half a dozen to battle for thel ,000 in added money. Three of these were 1 good winners in Miami and an equal number never have faced the barrier. Its a safe wager that Charlotte Girl, filly champion at Hialeah Park and a miss which went thrc lgh her only three starts unbeaten, will rule the public choice, with quite, a few folks believing she will be odds-on. The daughter of Cohort and Virginellc has been freshened up since winning the Nursery Stakes and her trials over the Bowie oval say shes partial to the deep footing. Sharp and good, shes going to be a mighty difficult miss to trounce. TOUGH PROPOSITION. The Sachsenmaier miss will be taking on colts for the first time in her career and travelling a furlong farther than in previous start. Consequently her job may be tougher than anticipated generally. In Our Chuckle she will have an opponent which waited for the Tropical Park meeting before swinging into action. There the ebony son of Jean Valjean, confidently supported, won with speed to spare. He raced like a handy sort and will not lack for supporters. Pompoons half-brother is another to draw favorable comment in Hialeah racing. This is Shining One, a son of Twink and Oonagh in the barn of Jock Whitney. He won first out in game style and then failed to show as well in the Juvenile Championship. However, hes trained cleverly here and seems one which will favor a half mile more than he did three furlongs. Continued on twenty-sixth vage. KINDERGARTEN HEADS BOWIES INAUGURAL CARD Continued from first page. The above three represent the known quantities of the field. The others, Star Runner Top Staff and Watch Over are in a mighty tough spot for their debut and ii one of the group should triumph he will be a colt well above the average. For, at this season of the year, the Florida entries arc no pushover for any mans two-year-old. The Kindergarten has a longer history than any stake now on Bowies spring schedule. It was first- mi a dozen Aprils back with Red Rocket getting honors. Then it lapsed for a year, being resumed in 1928 to continue uninterrupted until the present time. Vanderpool .was the smartest youngster ever to register in it, by a wide margin. He came into Maryland unbeaten after Florida campaigning and continued so through his two-year-old form, thanks to the disqualification of Equipoise in a Jamaica stake where the mighty Whitney colt led him past the judges. He packed 124 pounds in skipping over the half mile, a record fc the stake and time which is only two-fifths; of a second off the track mark.
