WAR ADMIRAL TOP WEIGHT Assigned 132 Pounds for Metropolitan Handicap, to Be Run at Belmont Park May 14. NEW YORK, N. Y., March 31. War Admiral has been assigned top weight of 132 pounds for the ,500 added mile Metropolitan Handicap, to be decided at Belmont Park on Saturday, May 14. Handicapper John B. Campbells imposts for the historic stake were released today by the Westchester Racing Association. The Glen Riddle four-year-old is to arrive at the Nassau County track from Berlin, Md., next week. His Metropolitan assignment is five pounds above the scale.- Next to War Admiral in the weights comes Wheatley Stables Snark and the South American importation Maraton, each with 122 pounds. Snark captured the 1937 renewal of the mile dash. He now is training smoothly for a return to competition at Aqueduct. W. H. Gallaghers fleet Rudie, four-year-old son of Reigh Count, which won three stakes and shared in the purse distribution of five others during the 1937 season, has 117 pounds and is regarded as a strong probable contender for the race. STRABO GETS 116. Rudie is followed by Strabo, with 116 pounds. This representative of Mrs. C. O. Iselin won the Dwyer, Kent Handicap, Edge-mere Handicap and Diamond State Stakes during his three-year-old campaign last year. II., unlike Maraton, has established form in this country, his most noteworthy score coming in the Aqueduct Handicap. The Metropolitan weights scale down to 97 pounds on Gentle Savage, Campbell making a difference of thirty-five pounds in I actual weight between the top and bottom horses in the handicap. Best known of the three-year-old candidates are Greentree Stables Redbreast and Jock Whitneys Pumpkin, each under 105 pounds. ENTRIES CLOSE MARCH 15. Nominations for the Metropolitan Handl cap closed on March 15. Twenty-eight were made eligible. The stake includes a clause in its conditions that reads: "Winners after publication of weights of three races of 60 or one of ,000, four pounds; two of ,000 or one of ,000, eight pounds; three of ,000, two of ,000 or one of 0,000, twelve pounds extra. If horses are handicapped at 115 pounds or over, the above penalties apply to the extent of one-half only. In the case of those handicapped at 120 pounds or over, to the extent of one-quarter only, and in the case of those handicapped at 128 pounds or over, they shall not apply at all. Penalties in the case of three-year-olds, shall not make the weight exceed 115 pounds." Penalties accrue from 5 p. m., Thursday, March 31.
