OAKLAWN PARK TURF NOTES I i ; . Jockey Leon "Buddy" Haas, who came from New Orleans to ride Feng in the Arkansas Derby last Saturday, made his departure for New York to report to trainer J. B. Theall of the J. W. Brown stable, for whom he will ride this year. Theall has the Brown stable quartered at Belmont Park. Frank P. Letellier, New Orleans turfman, shipped the division of his stable that he campaigned at Oaklawn Park to Churchill Downs. Those he is training for Louis Kay and J. W. Bell were included in the shipment to the Blue Grass State. Having disposed of the four-year-old filly Yetive that he was handling for Mrs. W. D. Bernhardt, Archie Zimmer, veteran turfman, left for his home in New Orleans for a rest. Yetive will be bred to Sazerac this season. Former Jockey Dan Hardy, who is training a public stable, reported that it was necessary to destroy the plater Speedy First before making his getaway for the Fox Valley Jockey Clubs track in Aurora. Several horses, the property of J. S. Gosselin, which were turned out during the winter, will be taken up by Hardy to be prepared for racing in Illinois. Headed by the promising two-year-old Red Moss, the thoroughbreds owned by R. L. and B. W. Stivers, of Lexington, were shipped to Keeneland Park. Dr. Frederick W. Ashe, one of the Oak-lawn Jockey Clubs stewards and a veteran racing official, left for his home in Sheeps-head Bay, N. Y., where he will remain throughout the summer. Richard A. Leigh, racing secretary of the Fox Valley Jockey Club, who stopped off la Hot Springs Saturday, en route to Aurora, plans to open his office at the Aurora course this week. William Hamilton, presiding steward at Oaklawn Park, left for Kentucky by motor to begin the schooling of thoroughbreds at Keeneland, Churchill Downs and Douglas Park. Starter Ruby White and. his crew of assistants also made their departure for the Blue Grass State. Saddling fourteen winners during the thirty days of sport under the auspices of the Oaklawn Jockey Club, Paul L. Kelley carried off the training honors and ranked second to the Milky Way Farm in the matter of purse monies won. Tigers triumph in the Arkansas Derby, gave Mrs. Ethel V. Mars stable the monetary honors. James E. Farley will visit for a few days at the farm of Dr. E. E. Watson in Ohio before proceeding to Suffolk Downs and a whirl of the New England tracks during the summer. Farley has several mares at the Watson thoroughbred nursery.
