ARLINGTON PARK SEEKS 00,000 MATCH RACE A.... A Samuel Riddle, owner of War Admiral, Wednesday wired John D. Hertz, chairman of the board of the Arlington Park Jockey Club, that he will try to see Hertz in New York "in a day or so," regarding the Arlington tracks 00,000 offer for a match race between War Admiral and Charles S. Howards Seabiscuit. Hertz also revealed that Roy Carruthers, general manager at Arlington, received Howards permission and agreement to go ahead on the match race at Arlington, when Carruthers first broached the offer to Seabis-cuits owner last January. Belmont has also offered 00,000 for a match in the fall. Official offer of the huge sum was authorized by the executive committee of the Arlington Park Jockey Club. Hertz, chairman of the Arlington Park Jockey Clubs executive board, himself sent the invitations for the match race to Samuel D. Riddle, owner of War Admiral, and Charles S. Howard, owner of Seabiscuit. The Arlington Park Jockey Club would reserve the right also to Invite Stagehand if he wins the Kentucky Derby. The three-year-old showed by winning the 00,000 Santa Anita Handicap that he can run against older horses. After conferring with Charles J. McLennan, his racing secretary, Hertz announced the conditions of the special 00,000 race as weight-for-age at a mile and a quarter. Under the Illinois scale, Seabiscuit, a five-year-old, and War Admiral, a four-year-old, both would carry 126 pounds, while three-year-olds carry 114. .
