HORNET, having good speed, raced close to CHISPA from the beginning, raced through on the inside nearing the home stretch, came through nicely and was up in the last few strides. CHISPA showed good speed to set the pace and held on willingly for the final drive. COSMIC RAY, lacking his usual early speed, bettered his position on the outside and closed strongly. MAYRO was always well up and held on gamely to the finish. RICHSTRIKE was hard ridden, but failed to better his position. COME HOME was unable to get to the leaders. BLAKEEN tired. ROCK HIGH was under strong urging to gain command midway of the back stretch, met strong contention from SYMPHON, but came out gradually nearing the end under strong pressure. SYMPHON showed good speed to hold a forward position and continued courageously to the end. CAVE HILL, going well placed, lost much ground entering the home stretch, but finished willingly. DON COSSACK could not reach the leaders at any stage. CAROLINA KID raced prominently for a half mile, then tired. CONSIDER ME was always far back. GREAT BLAZE raced close up under light restraint for five-eighths, was placed to puishment, but could not stay with the winner. TEDDY BEAU could not keep up with the leaders and failed to threaten seriously in the final drive. CHANCERY dropped back immediately after the start and raced poorly. PINE FRILLS, rated close to the pacemaker, challenged stoutly nearing the home stretch, wore down CRIMEA inside the final eighth and was under steady urging to withstand WEEKLY STIPEND. The latter, never far from the leaders, was caught in tight quarters when moving up fast on the turn, swung to the outside and finished strongest of all. SPANISH FLY, a keen factor from the beginning, came through on the inside of the leaders at the stretch turn and finished courageously. CRIMEA had to be stoutly urged to get to the front, was steadied nicely, but flattened out badly in the final eighth. DARBY DUKE tired after going five-eighths. VERY BUSY had no mishaps. KATE SMITH, vigorously urged to gain a short lead early, rallied to a tenacious drive when reaching the home stretch and barely lasted long enough to witstand HANDIBOY. The latter, a keen contender early, slipped through on the inside of the winner at the stretch turn, closed strongly and just failed to get up. JACK HORNER raced strongly all the way and held on gamely under a hard drive. DARBY DEAN, timidly ridden, was taken up going to the turn when racing close to the leaders and dropped back, but closed with a burst of speed when saving ground in the final quarter. HELLO STRANGER displayed much speed for a quarter mile, but tired. BLUE FANG was eased back shortly after the start and trailed thereafter. Overweight Darby Dean, 2 pounds. BULL MARKET, racing well up from the start, came again after dropping back at the final turn. LETOILE was going gamely although no threat at the finish. KINDRED SPIRIT had no excuse.
