KEENELAND TURF NOTES s s J. C. Metz, Newport turfman, reported that he has forwarded the nomination of his three-year-old gelding Gov. Chandler to River Downs for the Hopeful Handicap, one of the principal stakes offerings on the spring program at the Cincinnati track. Because of lack of proper identification the nine-year-old chestnut gelding, Zenith Lad was ordered withdrawn from the first race on Saturday afternoons program by the Keeneland stewards. The chestnut gelding is the property of A. H. Dietz and is trained by Harold White. C. R. Valentine, who has seven horses quartered at Douglas Park in addition to the four that he has at Keeneland, returned to Louisville Saturday night to inspect his string and intends to bring Southland Beau and Chubbins to the Lexington track when he returns early in the week. The horses are the property of F. P. Letellier. Harry Saladin, former owner and trainer, is making the riding engagements for joukey Bobby Dotter at Keeneland and will continue in this capacity during the Churchill Downs meeting. William E. Smith, vice-chairman of the racing commission, and Mrs. Smith, who have been here since the opening, left for their home at Louisville, but expect to return for an indefinite visit. Blind Poet, considered one of the largest horses in training, pulled up lame after working three furlongs in :35 Saturday morning. He is the property of Dr. Charles Hagyard and is trained by Tom Young.
