IN SPADES, alertly ridden and displaying good speed from the start, opened up a commanding lead swiftly, saved ground while setting the pace and was never threatened. ALAN CHICLE was away with the leaders, raced on the outside and closed gamely under urging. ODDESA DON improved his position gradually under strong handling. WALL began slowly and could not reach the leaders. RED CHIEF, well up for most of the trip, tired in the drive. SUNNY CHANCE had speed for a half mile, then quit badly. WILD DAY was fractious at the gate, was placed on the outside for the start and never threatened. Overweight Sunny Chance, 3 pounds.
