MANY HORSES AT RIVER DOWNS Track Alive With Thoroughbreds Preparing for Meeting Which Opens in About 10 Days. CINCINNATI, Ohio, April 23. In spite of the fact that the opening of the spring meeting at River Downs is more than a week and a half in the offing, the course is already alive with horsemen who have gathered here for what appears to be the best meeting staged at the Ohio River track since being taken over by the present holders from William V. Dwyer. Thoroughbreds from all sections of the country are arriving hourly and, according to track superintendent J. O. Brown, every available stall will be filled before the opening bugle blows. OFFICIALS OPTIMISTIC. Officials of River Downs are optimistic about the outcome of the spring session, and they believe that the meeting will far surpass their fondest expectations of a few months ago, in spite of the present recession. From a racing standpoint, River Downs will be in a position to present a brand of sport comparable to any that will be offered by other mid-western tracks this summer. More thoroughbreds of the higher quality will fill many stalls at the spacious up-the-river track and a higher grade of sport is assured fans of greater Cincinnati. A division of the Dixiana Farm stable will again be campaigned during the Downs session and, according to word received here, several of the topnotchers will vie for honors in most of the stakes offered during the meeting.
