BAY MEADOWS CLOSES SPRING MEETING OF 1938 I i . . SAN MATEO, Calif., April 23 Bay Meadows closes its 1938 spring meeting this afternoon. The session, while it could not be rated highly successful, was satisfactory to the management and a reasonable profit was made by the California Jockey Club. The daily average pari-mutuel handle was expected to be in the neighborhood of 60,000 when this afternoons had been totaled. The total handle up to and including Friday was ,718,168. A chain of circumstances caused business at the Meadows to fall below expectations this spring.
