REDBREAST IN FAST WORK Gallops Mile in 1:40 at Belmont Park Opera Hat Impresses in Training Move at Aqueduct. . NEW YORK, N. Y., April 23. While Redbreast, a Greentree Stable candidate for both the Wood Memorial and Kentucky Derby, failed to impress in the six furlongs dash at Jamaica that was won so easily by Opera Hat, the son of Chicle and Robins Egg -continues to train nicely for Brennan at Belmont Park. Saturday morning his task was a mile and he showed a fine turn of speed when he went along handily in 1:40 and he should surely improve over his first showing of the year. The present plan is to send the colt after the Wood and following that running ship him to Louisville for the Derby. Gangplank, of the same establishment, has been training steadily for the big Kentucky classic at Churchill Downs. While Redbreast was doing his stuff at Belmont, Ed Feakes brought out Opera Hat at Aqueduct and the son of Cocked Hat breezed a mile, hard held, in 1:45. After his impressive six furlongs, in his only start at the Jamaica meeting, this fellow has taken on some Wood importance. He is not an eligible for the Kentucky Derby but may readily be a troublesome colt for Derby elig-ibles to handle at Jamaica next Saturday. The Wheatley Stables Snark, winner of the Paumonok Handicap, the opening day of the New York season, under a burden of 132 pounds, was also out at Aqueduct and his task was one of seven furlongs. Fitzsimmons permitted the son of Boojum to go along for a breezing seven furlongs in 1:32. A high wind was blowing through the stretch and there were no fast workouts.
