I TANF0RAN TURF NOTES f a, Roy Selden, who holds the contract on Warren "Van Tassel, leading apprentice in the North last fall, has ordered the lad to take a rest in order to snap out of his slump, while jockey Scotty Craigmyle has departed for Hollywood Park to exercise the horses of the A. C. T. Stock Farm stable, now at that track in charge of trainer Darrell Cannon. G. H. Lambert has been engaged to train the horses of A. M. Koewler, replacing W. A. Thomas who went to the ranch to take up some two-year-olds. C. Bierman has been ordered to Keeheland to report to Ray Kindred, one of the many trainers for the Louis B. Mayer stable. Kindred had charge of some two-year-olds for Mayer at Hialeah Park during the winter, and that division of the motion picture tycoons stable is now at the Kentucky track. Bierman will leave for the Blue Grass Monday. Of jockey Walter South, a newcomer to the Coast, Eddie Killian, the microphone man, who saw him in action at Phoenix, has the following to relate: "South is one of the strongest whip riders in the business. He was third leading rider at Phoenix and accepted fewer mounts than L. Whiting and G. Dye, the leaders at that meeting. Apprentice Millman was suspended after his ride on Union Girl in the eighth race Tuesday. The boy, who is under contract to J. L. Scobey, came over rather sharply on the far turn and forced a couple of horses to take up. His is the third suspension at the meeting. Those previously penalized were V. Bovine and W. F. Ward. Pipe Down, an Alfred Vanderbilt cast-off, and Sweet Man, a consistent plater, arrived from Agua Caliente. They are owned by S. Krieger. Fifteen claims have been recorded to date at Tanforan. Mrs. C. B. Irwin took Dare Bunny from E. E. Presnell for ,250 tho top claim to date. P. Donovan has been granted a trainers license and will condition the horses owned by Mrs. P. Donovan.
