BORN BLACK raced to the front early and, showing good speed, shook off CHESTNUT BABY after entering the stretch, then continued gamely to the end to hold MARY CARMEN and HADAGE. MARY CARMEN was outrun early, but came very fast through the stretch and was gaining at the finish. HADAGE, well up from the start, saved much ground on the stretch turn and raced fairly well to the end. MILLROSE raced rather wide, but turned in a creditable effort. EMPRESS HILLS lacked speed. CHESTNUT BABY was used up racing with BORN BLACK and quit in the stretch. EPITOME was never dangerous and seems far from best form. Scratched 72169 Beau Meddler, 111. SLAPPED was slow to get going but under daring riding squeezed through a narrow opening on the far turn to reach contention and, getting through on the inside of MAGNANIMOUS on the stretch turn opened up a cood lead m the final eiehth to win easily. CLAUDE K. had a rough trip, being in close quarters several times and shut off on the far turn, but came fast when clear. MAGNANIMOUS had the most early speed but lost all chance by bearing out badly on the stretch turn. STARLO came again after beine shut off on the far turn. SWIFT GAL was racing well at the end. THE CLEAVER raced to the front at once and, well rated while saving ground, withstood a mild challenge froni SENTIMENTALIST at the half-way mark to draw out in the stretch, but was tiring at the end. CYNIC QUEEN came fast, although racing wide in the stretch and was gaining on the winner. IN RANGE was outrun early, but also came fast through the stretch. SENTIMENTALIST, close to the winner under restraint in the early part, failed to respond to punishment and tired near the end. ATTA BUNNY and MASTER JEAN also tired. PRINCE BOW had speed from the start and, after alternating with HIGH MARIA in making the pace, bore out on the latter in the last sixteenth to take a short lead and won in a drive. HIGH MARIA showed a good turn of early speed and raced gamely to the finish, despite meeting with slight interference near the end. BINOCULAR saved ground on the stretch turn, but was pocketed next to the rail an eighth out and t?aSJ t ,c,1lancc- . VICTORIAN STAR lacked his usual early speed and closed some ground when too late. 1ALL OAK was in close quarters nearing the far turn and tired. The others were outrun. SANTA MONICA dropped back when headed" by BON IVY in the back stretch, then came again to take command near the stretch turn and was in rather close quarters on the inside of the winner in the last eighth. DARK CONQUEST was outrun early, but closed fast to best DIARISSA. The latter lacked early speSd, raced wide; while making her move and tired near the finish. BON IVY quit badly.
